To monitor the standards of the higher educational institutions the UGC has established the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) as an autonomous body in September 1994. National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), Bangalore proposes that every accredited institution should establish an Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) as a post-accreditation quality sustenance measure.
As per the 12th Plan guidelines of University Grants Commission, an Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) is established for planning, guiding and monitoring post-accreditation Quality Sustenance and Quality Enhancement activities of the college.
IQAC Channelizes and encourages institutions to take efforts for academic excellence by internalizing and institutionalizing the quality enhancement. It lays more emphasis on the participation and coordination among the constituents of an institution. Further, IQAC provides an opportunity to an institution to realize its strengths and weakness, along with opportunities and avenues.
With the prime objective of Total Quality Management, IQAC enables the institution to constantly evaluate the performance, growth and development, and to establish new benchmarks to scale up the excellence in quality education. Hence, our institute, through IQAC is trying to disseminate knowledge to the rural masses by providing good academic and educational environment. True to our goal, we are working hard to inculcate social and civic responsibilities among the students, as well to provide a platform to them, to display and utilize the best of their abilities and talent in nation building. In this endeavor, IQAC plays the role of a “Torch- Bearer”.
NAAC does not only concern the Principal or the IQAC coordinator. It is the duty of every individual to contribute for the progress of the institution. Since NAAC is an institutional report everyone should be aware of all the seven criteria.
Committees must involve students and minutes of the meeting book should be maintained. Initial planning of the meeting has to be done and at the end of implantation a review meeting must be conducted to understand progress and discrepancies.
The IQAC member has to give proper guidelines to all the members and be a leading force in the process of NAAC.
IQAC suggested that the faculties be responsible for respective criteria and collect information pertaining to those criteria.
Systematic documentation must be done, since this college has very few documents, the documents have to be recorded in order to satisfy NAAC Criteria.
Best practices as an institution must be identified.
Overall it was a very fruitful audit because this highlighted the college’s status with regards to process of NAAC. It is indeed a great opportunity to work for the betterment of the institution.
Ms.Purvi Mahida as the co-ordinator of IQAC, convinced the faculty members, about the essentials of IQAC.
He also emphasized that IQAC can better be implemented by WILL and not by FORCE, as it is in the interest of the institution.
